The Plight of the Day Tripper
For Visitors to Key West: An Issue No More
By David Siegel, Guest Expert
"We're on a cruise. We're stopping in Key West. Wanna' get married?" This is not an unusual discussion.
Especially since the Mayor and various City Commissioners have made it clear that same-sex marriages
are welcome here in this the southernmost "live and let live" city. The problem is that most cruise ships are
only in port for a few hours on average. How do you make the arrangements?
Well it can be done! savvyplanners.com has created an special plan exclusively for the cruise ship
passenger. "The Day Tripper" program. This is a good thing because, even though there are details to be
handled, basically all you have to do is call the office when the ship's crew announce permission to leave
the ship. Within minutes the mighty savvyplanners.com wedding "S.W.I.C." team (Special Weddings
Implementation Crew) swoops in and takes care of everything. They seem to have though of everything
---really. It's pretty cool.
One thing about this company is that the service is so detail-oriented, upscale and complete. It's fine if
you only have two hours on the island. They have everything ready for you when you dock. I asked the
head honcho about the company's service style.
"Our service standard is a blend of Asian, European and American protocol. We have a very solid "as you
wish" stance. The client is here to be served. This is one of the things that makes us unique. There isn't
anything legal that we will not "move islands" to secure. Service means service.
Our training method is firmly rooted in the highest level of guest services protocol. Fundamentally, we do
our best to NEVER tell a client "no" or "that's not possible" or "it cannot be done". We are a proper
Conciergerie in addition to professional planners. There are few authentic concierges around anymore." I
asked what the strangest request has been.
"We had a gentleman that wanted an exotic vehicle for his stay. He was VERY specific about the type,
model, color, mileage...not strange ---just particular. We searched the state for weeks and had one
delivered for his use. I said we would and we did. Actually it's not my place to determine 'strangeness' of
a client request. I just get them what they want if it is available. This is why our service level shocks clients.
They are not used to being pampered and having their needs totally met."
He requested that we not go into the details of "The Day Tripper" program because it is a thing that sets
them apart from other planners. If you want to know the juicy details, just give them a call.
I have spent several days with savvyplanners.com and I must admit, there is a definite bar being raised.
To avoid any perceived conflict of interest and to maintain my guest expert status, that's all I feel
comfortable saying about that.
So, cruise shippers and day trippers rejoice! You can call them when you book your trip or even just a few
days before you arrive. They seem to be well connected and have a great network for pulling off
"miracles".
Frankly their price point reflects exclusivity but they worked well to "make budget" for their clients. The Day
Tripper package is as reasonable as you choose to make it. I have worked for companies that have a set
rate. That's it. No Flex. No changes. No way. I observed this company ask vendors to beat even
discounted rates for clients that had a certain set of figures in mind. This company doesn't "sell". It seems
that they don't have to. They just provide what the client wants. Period. All the services are a la carte.
In my opinion, there are many choices on the planet, but savvyplanners.com seems to have it all. At
minimum, they're worth a call. I was pretty blown away.
